Before WWII Singapore was Englands main trading hub and a bustling city rich with cultural diversity. It boasted extravagant black and white houses and beautiful flora and fauna as well.
As far as we know the mood there was happy and everyone was well taken care of, But before raffles made this city so successful after he claimed Singapore he left for 3 years and it became a drug capital. The opium trade corrupted many people and destroyed it's economy. When Raffles came back he was disgusted by what happened to Singapore and fired the man who he had put in charge.
Even before that Singapore was just a small island with few gypsy's and sea traders in the South-East Asian waters.
Now Singapore is THE trading hub of asia. It has it's towering skyscrapers in marina bay and orchard road, filled with tourist's and shoppers. The atmosphere is almost the same as i described before but much more modernized and much, much more populated. Singapore is one of the best places to live in the world today because of the safety, access to resources and the amazing cultural diversity.
